Great place to stay for visiting the area. Close enough but far from the crowds.

Cossy place …. the campsite has an immaculate ablution house with hot water. Very quite, car park with shade…..unfortunately there is no light at campsite….the water is so nice. Wi-fi only available at reception. The host is warm and welcoming….absolutely enjoyed my stay there.

The lodge is under a new management. We stayed here late December 2016. We were the only guests in the lodge. The food was marginal – mostly can food, frozen game meat, basic breakfast selection. Pool was unusable. Temperatures were reaching 35c/100F but rooms have no AC, not even a fan. Location of the lodge is scenic but over 1,5 hr drive to the dunes. Would not stay here again.

Zebra River Lodge is a very special place which won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s in a remote spot in the Tsaris mountains but when we travelled there the… read more roads were actually very good. Beautiful gardens have been developed around the lodge and there’s a small swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds. We stayed in a rock chalet which was very large and spacious with lots of storage. There was table and chairs to sit outside. There is no aircon or fan but the windows open and have mosquito nets across. There’s hot water for showers after 4pm. It was very hot when we were there but I guess it would be a lot more comfortable in cooler weather. Be prepared for mosquitos. There’s limited wifi in reception.
Come to Zebra River Lodge if you like walking, mountain biking or exploring the countryside. However, just sat in the gardens you could watch a huge array of birds and we saw kudu at the waterhole. All activities could be done independently (trails are clearly marked) but we went out with guide Jobi who took us on a double sundowner scenic drive and an early morning walk. The views were stunning and the information Jobi shared was fascinating. It’s a particularly good area for geology and we saw stromatolites and namacalathus hermanastras.
The staff and Jeanette the manager are all excellent. Food was served on the veranda at reception, with a buffet breakfast and set menu evening meal – all good.

This place was a great surprise in the middle of nowhere after a long day of driving. The desert setting is amazing with beautiful layered hills all around and it’s… read more about a 2 hour drive out to Sossusvlei. The verdant grounds and gardens were a welcome relief from the dust and desert. We had a warm reception and immediately got checked into our rooms. Our room was nice and big situated in a block of adjacent rooms. There was no heat, no AC, and no TV, but fortunately we were there in winter and didn’t have to cope with the extreme heat. The room was clean and well-maintained, however we did have trouble with the hot water – it seemed to cut out halfway through a shower and never came back on. There is Wifi in the main lodge, however it is so slow that it is unusable except for small emails and Whatapp. We liked the self serve bar, and we had an amazing 4-course meal of zebra steaks. The surrounding area is awesome for hiking and there are many trails around to explore on your own or with a guide. We brought our mountain bikes and had a great ride around the area. Overall we really loved this place and would definitely recommend it to other travelers.

We stayed for 1 night. More is not needed. The trails and nature are very nice. When we were there it was extremely dry and they told us that they… read more did not have real rain in 7 years. You can see zebras and kudus but in general the valley is pretty dead.
We did the jeep and hike tour to the end of the canyon to the spring which was great. You need to hike for 3 hours across tough terrain though.
The lodge is odd. They are polite and everything is clean – but decoration, rooms and architecture are not close as nice as it shows on the pictures. Furniture is old and does not combine. 3 star standard. No luxury. No mini-bar, no heater, no air condition… which is not necessarily needed but it was sold to us as a luxury retreat which it is for sure not.
Dinner is good. No bar, no lounge to sit – which in the cold winter was an issue in the afternoon / night.

Lovely setting with views of the scenery from the rooms and the small pool. A few sunloungers scattered about too.

Wifi is very slow and difficult to do anything other than a simple text communication.
There is a set menu dinner each evening and breakfast is cooked to order.

Our first stop after a night in Windhoek. A very long drive to get there and it wasn’t really worth it.
The manageress (Jeanette?) is very cold, unfriendly and… read more treats her staff like dirt. We were met by a charming young man who was doing a good job of politely welcoming us. The manageress suddenly appeared, dismissed him in a high handed way and proceeded to repeat everything he’d just told us – I took pleasure in advising her of this point. We were told our room was 15 ‚over there‘ and then left to get on with it ourselves. Not impressed at all.
The room was a new build and seemed unfinished. No nets over the beds, no fan. A large room but tiny cramped bathroom with the door about 18" from one side of the bed. No shelves or anywhere to hang clothes. Despite repeatedly telling people, we had no hot water for the 2 nights we stayed there which was very annoying.
The setting is stark and the scenery interesting. We did a walk with a guide on our first evening and he was very friendly. In fact, he saw us at the dunes a few days later and came over to say hello as if we were old friends which was nice. We also did 2 walks on our own. Signage is a bit hit and miss!
The staff were generally friendly but not really on the ball. When we checked out they told us the total of our bill. I asked to see the breakdown and it was totally wrong with several drinks etc that were not ours.
Food was pretty basic but ok.
Wifi was very poor and only available in the restaurant area.
This was my least favourite place of our whole trip and I would suggest finding somewhere else to stay.

We’ve been in the Zebra River Lodge for two nights. We’ve been welcomed friendly with a nice drink and the staff helped us with the bags.
The rooms are looking… read more good. Comfortable beds and a mosquito net were available. Unfortunately there was no air condition so that it was very hot in the bedroom. Sleeping was almost impossible…
The bathroom is small and under the shower you only have less water and because of the changing temperature of hot and cold it was a challenge to shower.
The dinner was only average, the breakfast less than that.
The wifi was extremely slow and interrupted the whole day. Mailing was impossible, you couldn’t open any newspaper websites and messaging took very long.
The pool needs to be cleaned, there have been swimming more flies, other insects and frogs than guests.
But the big issue why I couldn’t really enjoy the days: there have been so many flies and insects around. The complete day we heard the buzzing insects and the flies sit somewhere on your body. It was a pest! Luckily we had the mosquito net over the bed. Please try to do something against it!
We stayed in the Zebra River Lodge to go to the Sossusvlei but it is a very long journey and one road was closed so that we had to turn again. The other way took more than three hours.
I know the lodge is somewhere in the dessert and the next city is far away but I spent a much better time in different lodges with same conditions.
But the staff, especially Jooby, have been very friendly and gave the best that we enjoy our stay.
I think it is to expansive for what they offer… next time I will stay at an other place.

The Zebra River Lodge was a great stop for one night after visiting Sossusvlei. It is very calm and offers walking opportunities. Despite the heat and thanks to the breeze,… read more we enjoyed a nice walk before going on a sunset tour (accompanied with wine and biltong) with the friendly manager of the place, Philip. We have learned a lot from him; about Namibia, animals and many other things. The room was simple and clean. Only the mattress was not very comfortable. At night, we did observe zebras coming from the mountains in order to drink at the pond. The meals were excellent, much better than other higher rated lodges, and we were served 2 types of salads at dinner which is rare in Namibia.

The style of the lodge is relaxed yet efficient service. The individual lodges are fabulous scattered up the hill with great views across the creek. Very clean & well maintained. The beds are super comfy. The rooms are built in the local rock & this includes the bathroom with the unique round shower space.
The evening meal is a set menu with a vegetarian option if required. The food was very good, delicious sou[, buffet salad then oryx steak with potatoes & vegetables followed by a lovely dessert. The evening meal was one of the best we had during our whole trip. Breakfast was good too if you take into account serving food hot is not the norm in Namibia
Zebra visited the waterhole in the evening & we heard them wander through the grounds next morning too.
There is a pool & terrace with comfy seating as well as a small table & chairs outside each lodge.
Recommended for total peace & quiet. After the gravel roads Geraldine & her staff will look after you.

An oasis between two canyons. The road from Sossusvlei is kind of terrible but totally worth it in the end.
We stayed in chalet 6 and had a very… read more nice view over the garden and to the waterhole. Clean chalet, comfy bed, large windows. No wifi in chalet but in the main building. No cell phone coverage. Didn’t miss it though.
Very delicious dinner, three courses and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Not many choices for breakfast though.
We spotted some kudus and zebras in the night, the zebras were also playing in the garden, so were in less than 5 meters distance from us – amazing experience.
There is a small pool, but when we were there the water was too cool for a swim.
Didn’t have time to go on a hike, but the other guests were telling great stories from their hikes, so definitely a must-do for the next stay. I recommend 2-3 days here.
Very friendly manager of the house – Geraldine.
